The Seed

People often ask me if I have taken classes in art or if I went to college for art, my answer to them is simply 'no'. I am a self taught artist. I've been doodling and drawing for years, but it was only something I did while zoning out of boring lectures, classes and Sunday services at church.
I ended up taking one painting course in H.S. because I wanted to escape books and equations. I wasn’t' interested in many of the painting projects because they were boring and the visual elements were lame. However, there was one project that laid a seed within me to enjoy brushing paint upon a hard canvas. That was a project to recreate a famous work of art. I could choose anything appropriate for school.
The work that sparked my attention is the most often reproduced and widely known work of the German artist Albrecht Dürer. This gray and white brush drawing on blue-grounded paper, entitled the "Hands of the Apostle," generally known as "The Praying Hands" was the start of it all. Below is the actual image and below that is my own creation from 2003. I added my own element of the color purple.
After the course was complete, I gifted the painting to a dear friend because she had a strong relationship with the lord. I thought it was foolish to hold onto my works of art in H.S. because I was too cool for school. Oh how my perspective on life has since changed.

"Blue Light Special"

"Blue Light Special" was inspired by a group of images I was given from a past coworkeer who enjoyed my fascination with the female body as an art form. I showed the images to a man I was seeing and he was drawn to one featuring a woman in bright magenta bent backwards into a light source you couldn't see. I took the image and added my own flair and turned the painting a shade of aquatic blue. This painting was fun to create. The first sketch I did of it was in the airport. I had people around me very curious as we waited to board our flights.

Apartment Gallery Reaching its Limits

My deluxe efficiency has turned into a gallery, and the small amount of space I have left is becoming tight. Guess it's time for me to showcase my work, give some away and maybe sell.

I'm excited to share my work with the world and hope that it can inspire ideas, emotions and creativity. The world is my canvas and I feel like great things are ahead for my art.

I hope to one day donate a large amount of money to research for Ulcerative Colitis and Crones Disease.
